This is Abby having a bask outside whilst styling our winter range of summer shawls.
To see your terrapin here, join our online forum and see the details on how to enter.
Terrapins make fantastic pets, they are full of character and are brilliant to watch, especially when they are not kept alone. Although the tiny hatchlings may be cheap, housing them is certainly not, especially when they are full size… something to bear in mind. The other thing to remember is terrapins can live for up to 30 years reaching sizes as big as 12inches. They require a lot of maintenance and care, but if you are committed, they are the best pet to have in the house.
Please, please, please, just think about it, if you can’t handle water changes at least once a week, and can’t afford to keep them comfortably housed then they are not for you! We must remember terrapins need specific environments and care because many people dump them, or take them back to the shop on the realisation of this. Also, there are many people UK and USA based who rehome rescued terrapins, if you are interested in this please contact me, and I will try my best to put you into contact with the right people.
I got my two Yellow Bellied Sliders in January 07 and was shocked how little information is available on the little creatures. Unfortunately I have not had my turtles long and so my understanding is still limited, although I am trying my best to learn more. Please feel free to correct me or tell me anything I have missed, I would appreciate that. Also if you would like me to put up a picture of your turtle and/or your tank set up then send it to me and give me a couple of details such as name, age, and species.
I hope that before long many users will be on this site, sharing information and I really hope I can learn more here. Let me just ask again, please send me photos of your terrapins and tank set up and please email me if you are not happy with anything or have any queries or comments etc. I hope you find this site useful and please spread the word to any friends you have who would be interested.
I have written the content of this site from my knowledge of Yellow Bellied Sliders, if you have a terrapin that is cared for extremely different then let me know, we could add sections onto the site together. Basically I am just looking to build this site up as much as I can, but I can’t do it alone. I look forward to hearing from you!
